![]() How it works: Basestation Gateway broadcasts the EtherLinx signal from atop of a tall building or tower using standard 2.4 GHz ISM sector and/or omni directional antennas over a 10 mile footprint radius (longer ranges can be achieved with specialized antennas) . A five (5) miles radius footprint is recommended for a Non-Line of Site (NLOS) design. The Internet backbone connection is established at the Basestation Gateway. EtherLinx's Basestation Authentication Controller and network management provide full roaming capability, built in data transport security, and access management functionality. Omni Repeaters located within the footprint accepts the EtherLinx signal and then rebroadcasts it (repeats and strengthens the signal). This unique technology ( repeater functionality) is low cost and it mitigates the Line of Site (LOS) and range problems associated with 2.4GHz frequency. The Omni Repeaters can be located on poles, roof tops, or buildings. The combination of the Basestation Gateway and Omni Repeaters creates the robust NLOS environment required for zero installation, portable, and mobile solutions. Residential Gateway (Low cost CPE or customer premise equipment) is installed at the homes or businesses that require the broadband wireless connection. The Residential Gateway employs standard CAT-5 Ethernet connection that plugs directly into a computer, hub/switch and or wireless access point. Dual-Mode WiFi Repeater and Gateway is installed within the footprint or at the home to instantly create a WiFi hotspot. A metropolitan WiFi network can easily be built by deploying multiple EtherLinx Dual-mode WiFi Repeaters. This Dual-mode WiFi repeater leverages the EtherLinx broadcast then converts it to standard WiFi (802.11a,b or g) so that a laptop or PDA users can have instant wireless access using standard WiFi cards in their computers. The user doesn't need special hardware or software. The Dual-mode repeater supports all standard IEEE 802.11WiFi enabled devices. This capability is expected to accelerate the ability for WiFi hotspots to be deployed quickly and in large numbers.
